its the sagra del pesce at Pozzallo the weekend of 7/8 August, lots of fish to eat and, unaccountably, displays of ancient weapons….
From 8 August to 26 Sept the treno barocco will once again go from Siracusa to Ragusa, with stops at Noto, Scicli and Modica every Sunday at 8,45. The cost will be 13 euros for an adult and 8 euros for a child. At each station there will be coaches to provide a ‘barocco tour’ of the town before getting back on the train for the next stop. It will arrive at Ragusa at 1.30 and return to Siracusa at 15.45
Marzamemi film festival is on till 7 August.The second art and architecture installatino featuring designers, Loredana Roccasalva and Marco Strano takes place at 2100 on Sunday 1 August in the museo della pietra at Sampieri.The Theatre of Stone, works performed in amphitheatres and evocative settings around Sicily are in Kammarina and Sampieri at the theatre of stone, all summer - www.teatridipietra.org for the timetable.
Jet 2 are in talks to fly to comiso from Leeds from may 2011—- in the meantime, the mayor of comiso is threatening to chain himself to the airport railings if the necessary paperwrk isnt signed off in a matter of days….
This afternoon the summer ‘beach’ in Ortigia SR opens, with the solarium reconstructed. its the only place to swim in Ortigia, and is provided FREE by the comune for residents and tourists alike - it will be open all summer.
This weekend its the festa of San Paolo Apostolo the patron saint of palazzolo. The fun starts on Sat 26 evening with fireworks at 22.30, a traditional evening in the Villa Comunale on Sunday. A Concert on Monday evening with fireworks and on Tuesday its all day fund and games with more fireworks and loud noises. See more at www.sanpaolopalazzolo.org
This weekend its the festa of San Pietro in Modica - tuesday sees the saint’s statue being taken for a walk around town in the early evening. Fireworks at midnight. Expect crowds, road closures and a big market!
From Friday evening 18 to Sunday night Donnalucata hosts the Sagra della Seppia - lots of people to eat seppia (cuttlefish) based dishes - if its anything like last year, be prepared to queue!
